Lyonchen Dasho Dr. Lotay Tshering became the 3rd Prime Minister of Bhutan in 2018, leading the Druk Nyamrup Tshogpa (DNT) party to victory in the 2018 National Assembly Elections. He assumed office on November 7, 2018, succeeding Tshering Tobgay.

Dasho Dr. Lotay Tshering's background is in medicine. He graduated from Mymensingh Medical College in Bangladesh with an MBBS degree in 2001. He furthered his education with a post-graduate degree in surgery and fellowships in urology and endourology in various institutions, including the Medical College of Wisconsin, Singapore General Hospital, and Okayama University. He also holds an MBA from the University of Canberra. Before entering politics, he was a practicing urologist in Bhutan, reportedly the only one in the country at one point.

In addition to his medical background, Dr. Tshering has been actively involved in politics. He was elected as the president of the DNT in May 2018. The DNT's platform focused on socio-economic development and good governance.

The 2018 elections saw the DNT emerge victorious, leading to Dr. Lotay Tshering's appointment as Prime Minister, marking a significant transition in Bhutanese politics.
