Lyonchhen Dasho Tshering Tobgay served as Bhutan's 2nd Prime Minister from 2013 to 2018. He was elected following the second parliamentary elections held in July 2013, representing the People's Democratic Party (PDP). This marked a change in leadership from the previous Prime Minister, Jigme Thinley.

Early Life and Education:

Tshering Tobgay was born in Kalimpong, India.

He holds a Bachelor of Science in mechanical engineering from the University of Pittsburgh and a Master's degree in public administration from Harvard University.

Prior to entering politics, he worked as a civil servant in the Royal Government of Bhutan.

Political Career:

Tobgay is the president of the People's Democratic Party (PDP).

He served as the Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly from 2008 to 2013 before becoming Prime Minister.

During his tenure, he focused on various issues including Gross National Happiness, conservation, climate change, poverty, and democracy.

He also emphasized hydropower cooperation and the 12th Five Year Plan during his interactions with Indian leaders.

His government aimed to strengthen the private sector, invest in people, and embrace innovation.
